The Boys’ Brigade is the world’s oldest running uniformed youth organisation and was founded by William Alexander Smith in 1883. He was a part time soldier and Sunday School Teacher and established Boys’ Brigade on the twin pillars of discipline and religion. The BB was one of the first organisations involved in the D of E Award on its introduction in 1956.

The Boys’ Brigade first came to Tewkesbury in 1905 but lasted only a few years, but was restarted in 1956. There are over half a million members involved in BB around the world and more than 50,000 young people in the UK who meet each week to benefit from all our organisation has to offer. Gloucestershire membership has increased by over 30% in the last 5 years.
